Balisong is a sound project by Filipino-Canadian artist Patrick Cruz based on the territory of the Huron-Wendat, Petun First Nations, The Seneca and the Mississaugas of the Credit River (Toronto, ON). Using a loop machine and a pitch correction pedal, Balisong channels a combination of beatboxing, freestyle rap and devotional songs that articulate the shifting identity of an immigrant within the context of our globalized culture. Balisong is an extension of Cruz’s artistic practice that deals with ideas of hybridity and improvisation, this will be Balisong’s first performance.
