Rinaldo Walcott will present ideas around the events portrayed in the film Ninth Floor (2015), followed by casual conversation.
Focusing on the Sir George Williams Riot, Ninth Floor reopens the file on a watershed moment in Canadian race relations and one of the most contested episodes in the nation’s history. Writer and director Mina Shum engages the original protagonists in a compassionate cinematic exercise of reckoning and redemption.

Rinaldo Walcott is Associate Professor and Director of Women and Gender Studies Institute at the University of Toronto. He is a member of the Department of Social Justice Education at OISE, as well as the Graduate Program in Cinema Studies at the University of Toronto.
